I do realize that despite having started this blog six months ago, I never introduced myself. I never said “I’m Madison, and my blog is about ________,” because I didn’t know and I still don’t know, really.

I knew it would take time to figure out a lot of this stuff, so I gave myself a grace period to find a rhythm, improve on photography, develop an editing style, find my voice, make mistakes and work on all those other behind the scenes factors that come into play. Now that it has been six months, I’ve been thinking more about what I want to get out of blogging. What I want to bring to the proverbial table. Basically, where is this all going? I’m having a DTR moment with my blog.

Who do I want to be online and what do I want to write about are two questions I’ve struggled with since the beginning. Though it always umbrella-ed under the impossibly large topic of style, it’s difficult to narrow down where on the many different spectrums I fall. The high-fashion to budget-friendly spectrum. The contemporary to vintage spectrum. The topical sartorial writer to light-hearted style blogger. Aspirational to realistic. The bounds of Googling I’ve done has told me that I need to pick one niche to be a successful blogger. But I feel like I am squarely in the middle of each. What do you call that? How do I become the link that connects them?

I know I can’t be the only one who can only afford designer pieces second-hand but still visits barneys.com daily. Or who lives for getting dressed up, but takes her pants off within 3 minutes of being home. And I’m surely not the only girl who can change the conversation from glittery socks and coated denim to social anxiety and gun control over the course of a meal.

I am, as we all are, two sides of a coin. And I, like most, do not fit neatly into a box.

Basically what I’m getting at is, this is Almost Madison. Emphasis on almost. When I came up with the name 7 years ago, I knew I wanted it to be about the evolution of my style, the uncertainty of my future (because I never know wtf I am doing), and just generally growing as a person. So that’s where this blog is going. I hope you enjoy it, and I hope you’ll stay along for the ride.
